Iron Man 2 Review

The story begins some time after the events of the first film unfolded, this time Tony Stark has to deal with the government, his own friends, new enemies and even his own health.

To be honest and from a more technical point of view, there are quite a lot of problems with the film. It is loaded with filler, some plot points don’t make a whole lot of sense and the characters aren’t very deep but hey- You don’t go into McDonald’s expecting high cuisine. Sure there are some flaws but the pros outweigh the cons in this movie. This movie is not to be taken seriously, and the best thing about it is that it never wants you to do so. This is the main problem with many blockbusters these days, they try too hard to be epic and end up being stupid and pretentious. This is not the case; the film is written solely as a fun popcorn flick with no other purpose other than being fun, it’s just a series of awesome events, it’s like it’s saying “lets just blow some stuff up and kick some A while listening to AC/DC”. And it does it right.

Everything you want to see in an action summer blockbuster is here, likeable characters, good jokes and the most important: great action sequences. And this time, the action sequences aren´t just good, they are nothing short of amazing. One of them in particular stood out for me (I highly doubt this is a spoiler, it is seen all over the trailers and TV spots), it was the scene in the racing car track with Whiplash (played more than appropriately by Mickey Rourke), I’m not going to give out details and ruin it, but it really is jaw-dropping, I couldn’t help but to grin and gasp at how awesome it was.

The Whiplash scene is BEYOND awesome.
