Planetary Annihilation Hits Second Stretch Goal

Planetary Annihilation, dubbed “a next generation RTS” by its creators, is a Kickstarter funded game that has me giddy with excitement. The core concept of conquering worlds, blasting off into space, strapping rockets onto asteroids and then smashing those asteroids into your enemy’s worlds just sounds like an insane amount of fun and something I don’t think has ever been done before. Maybe there is a reason for that, maybe when the game comes out it’ll just be far too complicated and riddled with a screwy interface but it’s worth the risk to enable me to wreak fierily retribution on those who wronged me!

Um where was I, oh yeah; Planetary Annihilation has reached its second stretch goal of $1,300,000 (currently at $1,390,906) which means Gas Giants will now appear in solar systems and new orbital weaponry will be added to the game. The Gas Giants will be resource heavy planets and be a major focal point of your interstellar war. Do you build up your defence before attempting to colonise it or do you spend precious time and resources on getting to the Gas Giant early in the game to reap the benefits early on but leaving yourself open to attack?

Now I know I’ve said this every time I’ve updated on this game “I would be happy with only X”. First time it was water planets and navies…then they hit that goal and Lava and Metal planets where announced and then I thought that was awesome (still do, make that happen please). But this time its different Uber (the developers) have announced stretch goal #4. For a whopping $1,800,000 they will add “Galactic War”. This is where you don’t control some measly solar system but an entire galaxy of stars and planets; fighting against numerous foes on multiple fronts. You’ll be securing resource rich areas, denying critical assets from your enemies, reinforcing weak areas and more. All while you’re still down at the planetary level, fighting in the muck with your troops; advancing in a painfully slow dirge of death and destruction. It makes everything else look like a tutorial level, just watch the latest update video and tell me you don’t want to throw you money at this thing?

If you haven’t already please check out Planetary Annihilation on their Kickstarter page. There are only 6 days left to go; which isn’t a lot of time to raise over $400,000 needed for Galactic War but if it doesn’t happen my life will be forever mournful to see such marvels only to know I’ll never touch them.
