Brian Fargo, head of inXile entertainment who was the creator of the original 1988 cult RPG, Wasteland as well part of the team that made the original Fallout recently started a Kickstarter project to fund a minimum $900,000 for the development of the sequel, Wasteland 2. It reached its target amount in 43 hours.
Now at, a fund total of $1.7 million, there were increasing rumours that got everyone excited.
Now it has been confirmed….almost.
Obsidian, the creators of excellent but underrated games like Fallout: New Vegas and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II have been linked to a possible collaboration with inXile for Wasteland 2.
Chris Avellone, the creative director of Obsidian himself has declared interest in such a move.
An official statement from Obsidian’s Facebook page says :
“Chris Avellone, Obsidian’s creative director, might just be working on a new project soon… inXile’s Wasteland 2! Our two companies have come to an arrangement to collaborate together on the title, and we’re extremely excited about the opportunity! “
Avellone himself has commented on this saying, “Wasteland is one of my favorite RPGs of all time, and when Brian asked if I wanted to work on the sequel, I jumped at the chance. While I’ve worked on Fallout 2 and Fallout: New Vegas, getting the chance to work on the spiritual successor to the Fallout franchise is a honor.”
Fargo himself says on this possible “dream collab” as “I have a history with the guys at Obsidian that dates back to the days of Interplay’s Black Isle studios. Together we created some of the greatest RPG’s of all time, from Fallout 1 & 2 to titles like Icewind Dale and Planescape: Torment. It is great that we now have a chance to reunite on a project like Wasteland 2.”
One should also note that Tim Cain, the brain behind Fallout 1 and former Troika head who made cult RPGs like Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines recently joined Obsidian.
If this collaboration turns out to be a reality, this project is going to have a ridiculous amount of credentials to its developing team and RPG pedigree to it.
