Star Wars: Battlefront Online was never officially announced as being in development, and it is reported to have been cancelled. Reports say that it was being developed by Siant Six, which had to lay off multiple employees this week. The company says the lay-offs are not permanent, and the employees will be reinstated when they are able.

GameSpit has the reported confirmed cancellation by the Siant Six managing director Brian Thalken, who said "Our current project needs do not align with our current staffing levels." He went on  to say he wants to return the staff members back once work on future projects picks up.

The layoffs are due to LucasArts putting a hold on Star Wars: Battlefront Online. They wanted the game shipped in 2010, not in 2011 as they have other plans for that year. Once it was apparent a 2010 release was not going to happen, they scrapped the game.

Our hopes for a new Battlefront killed once again…
