EA Sports is ready to continue their assault upon the NHL 2K series. After years of domination on the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, EA’s NHL series sent the 2K series packing to a Wii only franchise. Perhaps, 2K figured they would find sanctuary on the Wii platform as EA has never published a hockey game for the Wii, well that is all about to change.
EA Sports is set to announce NHL Slapshot tomorrow, which just like its NHL 11 brother is being developed by EA Canada. There are a few reasons to possibly be exicted for NHL Slapshot besides the fact that it will be EA’s first Wii NHL game such as; All Time Great Wayne Gretzky will be the cover athlete and spokesperson for the game and the fact that NHL Slapshot will be coming with its own hockey stick peripheral.

"If coaching fails try your hand at Salesman"
The most exciting news about NHL Slapshot, is the “Peewees to Pros” career mode that starts you off as a 12-year-old, you can create a player or you can step into the skates of a real NHL pro and even Gretzky himself, and then lets you work your way up from the Peewee to Bantam to Junior to Pro levels. Your player will grow, age, and even acquire skills along the way.

"Start off in Peewee and work your way to the NHL."
“It actually ends up being the most in-depth Be a Pro Mode that any EA Sports game has ever had, because you go from 12 years old to 40 years old,” Dave Littman, Creative Director of NHL Slapshot and Producer of NHL 11 says.
Littman then went on to say that he believes that NHL Slapshot will help grow the game as, “Kids are going to be able to play the game, and get some real life practice in, but at home,” Littman tells me. “You start learning offsides, you start learning when to take a slapshot and when to take a wrist shot, you start learning when to check, when to poke check.”

"The Great One is so Great that he and his kids play the Wii without it even being hooked up!"
NHL Slapshot will hit stores on Sept. 7, alongside NHL 11 for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
