Recently in an interview between Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime and CNBC, the Nintendo President said that the next goal for the Wii is not to simply add in more visual appeal, but to increase the ability of the Wii to offer more.

Over 26 million consumers have bought a Wii, proving that the visuals being lack luster when compared to competitors is not the issue. The Wii was a great idea, and just to keep up, Microsoft and Sony have caught on to the formula of Nintendo’s success emulating some of the Wii’s mechanics. It’s been proven, "The quality of the visual is not nearly as important as the overall entertainment – the overall value of that experience and that’s really what’s propelled us," said Fils-Aime.

This will allow Nintendo to catch up to it’s competitors in terms of visuals of course, but also with the comment made by the Nintendo President I think we can expect more features in online play and its media capabilities. A date has not been set for the release of the Wii’s successor, as Fil-Aime had these closing comments "We’ll do that when we totally tapped out all of the experiences for the existing Wii and we are nowhere near doing that yet, so lots of ongoing opportunity for the consumer in the current generation."
