As it was previously reported that,Sega was planning to restructure financially by cutting down on jobs in its North American and European offices and cancelling certain games from franchises they didn’t mention.
According to Spong, it seems like Bayonetta 2 might have been one of the games that might have been cut down in that process.Apparently, the game wasn’t that far into development before it was halted. It was rumored to have a new character in the form of a US military character–possibly a villain.
Fans of this fast-paced critically acclaimed action title feared that Platinum’s pedigree would receive acclaim but that acclaim wouldn’t translate into a commercial success. Ironically, Bayonetta proved everyone wrong as it turned out to be Platinum’s best-selling game by selling over a million copies.
News of this rumor has been received by Platinum Games in different manner. Atsushi Inaba, the head of Platinum Games posted a clearly fake fan-art via his Twitter account that said "Bayonetta 2" on it possibly in an effort to troll everyone who thought it was cancelled.

Hideki Kamiya, creator of Bayonetta as well as the Devil May Cry series, however tweeted "Game that hasn’t been announced cannot be canceled,so I know Bayo 2 is safe in your mind-heart and around PG office". This vaguely contradicts with the rumours we heard before.
Bayonetta received a lot of acclaim from fans and critics alike when it was released back in 2010 in the West and it has gone onto become a personal favourite of the current console generation for a lot of gamers. Sega aren’t doing themselves any favour by cancelling a game that is PG’s best-selling title and clearly has fan demand backing its sequel.
