When Activision announced that its critically acclaimed series, Call of Duty, was moving into the realm of modern warfare, many fans cried fowl, whereas many other fans thought of it as a breath of fresh air from the Tommy Gun and the storming of Normandy.  Well, I am here to tell you that Activision made a stellar choice, because this is indeed a breath of fresh air – and oh what a refreshing breath it is.
"Get to the chopper!"

When you pop in a copy of Call of Duty 4, you’re going to have the option of diving into the single player or the multiplayer.  While the story modes of past titles were cinematic and well put-together, the strong suit of the series was always in its multiplayer.  Thus, veterans of the series will probably want to drop right into the multiplayer upon booting up the game.  While I usually don’t care what you do concerning your copy of the game and your free time for that matter, I strongly suggest that you take a gander at the single player first.  This is because, in my eyes, the single player is just as good as the multiplayer, and that is saying a lot for a First Person Shooter.  That’s why they both deserve their own reviews (multiplayer review starts on Page 4).  And hey, if you don’t want to listen to me, the least you can do is stop in for the single player tutorial to learn about some of the new controls implemented this time around, or just to get a feel of the game before diving into fragging your buddies from across the coast.
