"Oh no it's Sonic!" is what most will think. Fear not, as Sonic Colors, the new game from what once was a beloved franchise but has been digging its own grave with every new game, is not bad. In fact, it's quite the opposite.

The DS version is, basically, Sonic Rush 3. Same controls, same great level design, same speed. There wasn't much new, other than a special fire spirit (in other words, a power-up) that would set sonic on fire.

The Wii version, though, deserves some attention for being Sonic in 3 dimensions without being bad. It's fast and full of tricks to perform. The spirits/wisps on this game have a different effect: while one allows you to use a turbo boost, much like on the Sonic Rush games, another would let you dig soft ground to find coins and secret passages, all while keeping the fast pace. Another thing worth taking in consideration is the fact that most of the game is set in 2 dimensions, aside from some moments where the camera gets behind Sonic.

The platforming, as you'd expect from a 2D sonic game, is great. The already mentioned "dig spirit" lets you find hidden passages that branches stages in more ways that you've ever seen on Sonic.

The Wii demo ended with a boss fight. You're trapped in a giant wheel, with rotating platforms and the boss in the center. Basically it would attack you with its two spiked feet, trying to stomp you. You could either run fast enough to keep spinning around the wheel and jump at the right time or jump from platform to platform until the boss. The fight itself was rather easy and disappointing, honestly.

Sonic Colors is coming to the Nintendo Wii and DS, without a specific release date yet.
