A PLAY ON MARIO SPORTS
A game that gives new players a sporting chance.

The demo only allowed me to play on two of the four games Mario Sports has, Volley Ball and Basketball (go LA Lakers, woo). So it's missing Dodgeball and hockey but what I've played so far leads me to believe that this game will be yet another must for parties or just playing around with the kids. The controls are very simple and the game manic is with wildly changing scores; which means that players behind can make epic comebacks and those way infront will be screaming at the top of their lungs "they've be cheated" or "it's not fair". All games are four-player-co-op and I'm sure there will be plenty of friendly rivally in the room.

Basketball was good fun; controls are easy to understand. You jump up in the air by waving the wiimote upwards and then perform a throw into a hoop or a slam-dunk by swinging down. You control the character movement with the anagloue stick on the nunchuk and can pass to the other player on your team with the A button. You can however steal the ball from players by pressing A next to them or block on-coming shots by jumping up in the way and knocking it off course. Oh and if you're playing it 2-player (or single) you can switch between the two players on your team by pressing the C-button. Then you've also got the special move that is gradually charged up, simply press A+B together and you'll preform a move that is almost impossible to block. Add to this zones to addtional scores and a last 10-second 10x multiplier and you've got one game that will be frantic no matter how good the one player is, in relation to the other.

I had less fun with the volley-ball but maybe I was just upset that Bowser wasn't in a Binki. Again the controls very simple. to pass the ball swing up and to preform a smash into the other sides' court swing down. Move the character with the anagloue stick and nomatter the mode you can't switch between characters. The aim is to say underneath a glowing spot on the floor and send the ball flying back before they have a chance to recover. Special skills appear again and its safe to say they will appear in all the events. This time for addtional points you had to run other boxes to collect coins and it'll raise you score.

Each of the modes I played had three different courts (promised many more) and each had their own quirks. Each court will affect how you play, the beach level in volley ball for example has a tide that will prevent you from jumping so high, the jungle one sees the court's boundaries move about while the bowser court sees the losing team's court area shrink so it's harder to get a point.

I'm not a big sports fan so maybe that's why I like it, easy to pick up and lots of frantic fun without the need of hours to pick up the skills to play it which your friends.
