XCOM seems to be in the suspense and strategy genres. The game does a solid job of immersing the players in that type of environment. XCOM is set in 1950’s America, but something foul is afoot. There seems to be some extraterrestrials involved, and this is where you come in. Players will step into the role of the Head of XCOM.

There is a main operations room where you can choose what you want to accomplish. You can do things such as rescue civilians, do some research, or go on some missions. However, be careful what you choose, because when you come back to the operations rooms some of the tasks that were available before you left may not be there for you to choose.

So let’s say you want to do some research. Going on a research mission can affect the types of weapons that you will have available to you throughout the game. Some of the weapons that make an appearance in the game are a shotgun and a lightning gun, which is really cool. Another important part of XCOM is your team. For once in a game your team is actually needed. If your team starts dying you need to keep them alive, because without your team you will soon follow them in the death department.

The visuals in XCOM look pretty sharp and are quite impressive. When you go out onto missions you have a map that you will use to navigate the world. You can make the choice to follow up on a mission after you complete it, or you can just carry on about your business. You can take pictures while out in the field for research purposes. There are also a ton of enemies, which seem to have brought some of their own technology to the fight, but I am sure you can research their technology and eventually be able to use similar weapons.

If you had to compare XCOM to a current game that is available it would have to be Bioshock. XCOM is a nice looking science-fiction that uses strategy elements very well from what we have been shown. The game is a first-person-shooter, and again resembles Bioshock. XCOM is a game that is coming to the PC.
