In Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, players will take control of main character Nathan Drake, a funny ladies man that lives for adventure. Drake is on a mission to find the famous El Dorado treasure which his supposed past relative Sir Francis Drake tried to discover but came up empty handed. He is accompanied by Elena Fisher, a witty journalist who is “tougher than she looks” who’s News Company funds the entire expedition, and Victor “Sully” Sullivan, a long time friend of Drake who still packs a harder punch than some that are half of his age. These three adventurists all have a stake in finding the El Dorado treasure. Nathan Drake wants to finish the job that Sir Francis Drake started to take his place in history. Elena Fisher wants a once in a lifetime story for her journalist career. Then there is Sully who wants the fortune that El Dorado entitles.

There is amazing presentation both through the story and graphically. I’ve had family members wondering if I was playing a game or watching a movie. The Hollywood style action style is extremely well executed. The voice acting was better than those of many current movie titles. While a more variety in enemies and setting would greatly improve the game and more focus put towards the end boss fight. Uncharted: Drakes Fortune is still very well presented.
In Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, there are many welcome innovations to the third person action adventure genre. The platforming is done very well with all of the many items you are able to use while climbing, sliding, jumping, and other platforming elements and is simply just a lot of fun. The sixaxis controls were well implemented in some aspects like balancing yourself while walking across narrow objects but the grenade throwing, arc mechanics were very underwhelming and inaccurate; it was very difficult to aim your grenade especially using sixaxis controls. The cover system is nice because it offers variety. You can blind fire over and object so you can keep yourself covered, or stand right up to shoot over the object, you can also shoot from the sides of an object leading you to think before you shoot, especially in hard difficulties such as crushing. The cover system also combines with the platforming so while you are climbing an object you can use the cover system to fire around that object. I also thoroughly enjoyed the gunplay because it was simple to use but difficult to master while it was also very accurate.

The graphics in Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune are just incredible. Naughty Dog must have had detail high on their priority list while developing this beautiful game. When Drake is loading his gun, you can see him take his empty clip and throw it down on the ground before loading in the new clip, and it will remain there instead of vanishing like in a lot of other games. If Drake goes into the water, you can clearly see his pants wet or if he submerges his whole body in water, you can see that he is drenched and will take longer to dry off. The forest setting is very beautiful and detailed also. The most impressive thing graphically in Uncharted is the water. In the beginning of the game, you will see an exploding ship on the water and you can see the fire reflecting in the water providing a gorgeous scene.

Uncharted remains one of the most graphically impressive games available for the Playstation 3 or any other console for that matter especially considering that it’s over two years old. It is a near flawless title but some flaws prevent it from being scored a perfect 10. Naughty Dog has made many great changes to the action adventure genre with Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. Such as a great cover system with awesome blind firing techniques, outstanding enemy artificial intelligence, very accurate gunplay, and a Hollywood style story filled with nail biting action and cut scenes that could easily be transferred onto the big screen.

Graphics Considering the time that Uncharted was released, it is arguable that it was the best looking console game available. |

Sound A lot of detailed background sounds but Uncharted suffered a bit of consistency problems with their sound that was sometimes incredible. |

Gameplay Very fun shooting mechanics, I enjoyed the melee system as well because it made you fighting your enemy look like a movie scene. I would have liked to see a bit more variety in gameplay, after platforming, shooting, and melee, there isnt much more to do. |

Controls The controls were very comfortable for me, the grenade throwing mechanics were terrible though. |

Replay Value Uncharted's single player campaign could take you as long as about 12 hours to finish on a harder difficulty and/or you are taking your time. For most people though, Uncharted will last you about 7-9 hours. While it was an amazing experience, you may not |
