A LOOK AT THE NEXT GENERATION OF MODS FROM 2 PLAYER GAMES

Recently, I've had the fine pleasure of sitting down with Clyde from 2 Player Games. While unknown to the major gaming industry, 2 Player Games is working on a project set to blow you away. With the epic scale and amount of work being done on it, it's almost impossible to call it just a mod. Here's our interview.
Meodia: Can you give us some information on your team as well as your project?
2 Player Games: 2 Player, is a team filled with young designers, modelers, animators, music composers and more.. all with one goal in mind.. that of making a game.
Frozen Colony is the first project we're working on (utilizing Cryengine 2).
This is the 7-minute trailer which we released this week, it gives you a taste of what the game includes!

Many Crysis fans loved the video, MGS fans were also excited as they said that the game has some MGS in it! (we're huge fans)..
Meodia: How many people are in your team?
2 Player Games: Our team consists of young talented people who are all assigned to important roles for all our projects. At the moment we have over 10 people in our team, some of these include: Writers, Designers, Modelers, Programmers and Artists. We also have an extremely talented music composer, NxSG, who's kindly offered to compose the original soundtracks for our projects. Not to forget our talented voice actors, who are currently all hard at work on completing the first part of Frozen Colony.2 Player™ always welcomes new talent.. the larger the team, the bigger the projects.
Meodia: Did you guys plan ahead on what you would be able to do? Or did you just go with flow?
2 Player Games: When we established 2 Player Productions, we had one goal in mind; that of creating games that will hopefully turn into powerful sagas. As gamers ourselves, we know what the gamers want.. We listen to our followers and try to communicate with them as much as possible, asking them what they'd like to see and why.. We always plan before we start a project, but if something happens, we're good at adapting. ;)
Meodia: What was the biggest obstacle you guys had to overcome?
2 Player Games: I personally think that once you form a team and you understand your vision, you shouldn't find a lot of obstacles. Sure you'll always find some random problems, but that's why you have a team. Till now, the only obstacle we had to overcome was to find the right people to join our team, and be able to work for us for free as all our projects are non-profitable.
![]() Meodia: For your project, are you keeping the gameplay similar to Crysis or something different?
2 Player Games: For Frozen Colony, we're trying to keep the gameplay similar to Crysis, but in the same time we're interested in implementing something new. We're still not sure what to change/add, but probably it'll be something fans will like.
Meodia: How big is this project say, compared to other mods done on Crysis?
2 Player Games: Frozen Colony 1 is divided into 4 acts/episodes. Each act takes about 3-4hrs to complete, depending on the player. Frozen Colony is a huge project. It's the birth of a new saga.. bringing forth a new powerful storyline filled with action, dramatic scenes, plot twists and very interesting characters. We're giving this game a lot of importance, we want it to grow and possibly make a series of it. Frozen Colony is a game that will surely please all Crysis fans and introduce others to the series!
Meodia: What's some of the feedback your fans/random people have been giving you?
2 Player Games: Our fans' response has been great so far! Everyone's excited to see more of Frozen Colony & our future projects. Some of these fans can't even believe that me and my brother (Selkan) are Maltese.. maybe because no one in Malta did something like this before...
Meodia: Can you gives us an overview on the CryEngine 2? The benefits? The cons?
![]() 2 Player Games: We decided to start with the CryEngine 2 engine because we all agreed that by far it's one of the best looking engines one can find. Stunning visuals, breathtaking effects, lifelike animations, destructible environment.. almost everything is possible with Crytek's amazing engine.. One can only imagine the power of CryEngine 3.
Meodia: Any feedback you would give to Crytek on their engines? What they can do? Fix?
2 Player Games: All I can say is that Crytek are doing an excellent job, especially with the long awaited 3D support for CryEngine 3. CryEngine 2 is a beast compared with other engines, and from what we saw, CryEngine 3 is much more powerful. There's not much one can say on what Crytek can add to their new engine, but I'm sure that if people wanted something new, Crytek will listen and try to make it happen.
Meodia: Have you had a chance to look at the CryEngine 3 as of recently?
2 Player Games: We've been very updated with news regarding CryEngine 3.. Everything Crytek's demonstrating is incredible, I'm sure all of us expected this thanks to its predecessor. We're very interested in using other engines for future projects, but we'll definitely be using CryEngine 3.
Meodia: If someone was going into the game development business, what tips would you give them?
2 Player Games: If someone's interested in Game Development, my tips for them would be to think ahead.. try to vision what they're after, be part of the best team possible, share their ideas and always listen to their team mates.
Meodia: Who are some of your inspirations in the game development industry? Who would you want to work for/with?
2 Player Games: Me and my brother are huge fans of the Metal Gear Solid franchise. We've been following the series since we were kids and we've always been amazed by the amazing storyline and originality. 80% of the reason 2 Player Productions has been established is thanks to Kojima's masterpiece. For us, everything in MGS is perfect; the story, characters, gameplay, music, locations.. Our dream was and will always be that of working with the legend himself, Hideo Kojima.
Meodia: When can we expect this project to be released?
2 Player Games: So far we haven't decided a release date yet, but we're planning to release the first act by late 2010 or early 2011.
Meodia: Alright, well thank you very much 2 Player Games for giving us the pleasure of having this interview with yourselves. We're looking forward to the project.
2 Player Games: No problem whatsoever. Thanks for allowing us to talk with you. Oh, some more information for you. There will be a private beta demo for insiders and chosen followers. You can expect it later this year.
