In a recent interview with IGN Robert Rodriguez revealed that the studio was always planning to make a sequel.
 
“They really wanted it to be pretty contained, pretty scaled-back.” adding “They didn't want to put too many of the ideas into it that we could save for a second one.”
 
So what’s the second one going to be about? Well Robert does have some ideas but he’s going to open it up, allow other screenwriters to take a crack at the story and they decide which one is best (and probably pinch a few of the better ideas from the rejected scripts).
 
He doesn’t know if he’ll be directing the sequel though, saying "I think I have too many people wanting me to do Sin City 2 first!"
