A new Chunsoft adventure game was just recently released on DS. The game features a mature, 'Professor Layton' meets 'Saw' scenario where Junpei, a college student and either other people try and escape from a sinking cruise ship. The game is set up in two parts - story mode, and "escape" mode. In the story mode, the game takes on a visual novel route and explains and furthers the narrative. In "escape" mode, players must solve puzzles by finding clues, doing some brain-teasing math and other tasks to escape from rooms they've been trapped in.

 

This is a unique experience not only to the DS, but to gaming in general. The writing and pacing is surprisingly well done, and the puzzles won't be solved easily. If you're looking for something more 'visceral' than Ace Attorney or Layton, give this game a go. It's been released in limited quantities at retailers, so be sure to give this sure-to-be hidden gem a look.
