SONY MAY START CHARGING FOR PLAYSTATION NETWORK
They're "actively thinking about it."

In a recent interview, Sony’s VP of marketing, Peter Dille was asked a very interesting question “Will you address some of these shortcomings, and might there ever be a point where you'll charge for the service, as Microsoft does?” Peter Dille first managed to do the old politician trick and answered the question with another question but to his credit came back to the issue after talking about the service they provide saying

“It's been our philosophy not to charge for it from launch up until now, but Kaz recently went on the record as saying that's something we're looking at. I can confirm that as well. That's something that we're actively thinking about. What's the best way to approach that if we were to do that? You know, no announcements at this point in time, but it's something we're thinking about.”

This comes after Sony Computer Entertainment America President and CEO Kaz Hirai said that they were considering adding a premium service to the Playstation Network. So it’s still a little unclear what direction Sony is going to take and it sounds like they’re not sure either but it sounds like they’re going to do something similar to the Xbox Live Silver and Gold accounts.
