Titled 'Hunted: The Demon's Forge'.

When Bethesda, behind such great games as Elder Scrolls, Fallout 3 and PBA Bowling 2001, announce they’re working a new IP you stand up and take notice. When they say they’ve been working on the new IP for the past 2 years in secret and that it’s pretty close to being finished, well you almost pass out with excitement. That new IP is Hunted: The Demon’s Forge.

Hunted: the Demon’s Forge is a return to classic dungeon crawling games; much like ‘Dungeons and Dragons’ of yore. What made these games fun was the fact you would get a load of mates around, each chose a different class and then tackle the endless hordes of Tolkien-like-but-legally-different creatures. Bethesda knows this and the whole game is Co-Op focusing on two very different characters.

Caddoc and E’lara are the characters in question, Caddoc is the male and like all men likes to smash things with his massive sword while not doing a lot of thinking, while E’lara like all females like to stand in the distance picking holes in everything you do, and by that I mean; she attacks with arrows. Together they complement their own skills and overcome their weakness but that’s not all they can do. Spells play an important part of the game and it appears that the spells you can cast only affect your partner, if you partner is badly damaged and goes down you can rescue them much like the system in Resident Evil 5. Unlike Resident Evil 5 you both hold three potions, these are used to resurrect fallen characters and can be used on them no matter how far away they are from you, but as you’ve only got three of these potions sticking close to your partner is better for your health in the long run.

The game is online only I’m afraid, Bethesda has decided that it won’t include split screen to keep the graphics as high as possible so you’re just going to have make do with your online friends. Even if you don’t have any friends the game uses an advanced matching system. It watches the way you play and if you take a long time exploring levels and talking to NCPs it shouldn’t pair you up with somebody who likes to rush ahead and attack everything. Also say you’ve already explored the levels and you just want to blast through it don’t think the game will pair you up incorrectly; you can request a certain type of player to pair up with. Bethesda says they spent a lot of time on dating sites “researching” the way they match up profiles; so I imagine you can get your money back if they don’t pair you up within the first 6 months.

Levelling up is done my finding crystals scattered throughout the world, there will be only one crystal in that spot at anytime. So while you’re able to freely jump in and out of online games at whatever point in the story you’ll never find that crystal there again, meaning you just can’t farm one spot to gain levels and playing through the game multiple times won’t help you out either. Speaking of which you should be able to play through the game quite a few times, as it’s guessed to clock in at around 10 hours of length.

The game might look like a simple hack-n-slash at first glance but there does appear to be a surprising amount of depth and substance to the game. It’s currently announced to be released on the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and Games for Windows. One to keep your eye on and we’ll do the same and let you know if we hear anything else about it.

I dont like the idea of online only, my style of play varies depending on my mood with these kind of games. Still, sounds interesting and I'll be looking out for it.
