First off Isaac the silent protagonist of the first game will return and no-longer be silent and that video-logs will also make a return to add to the back-story and ambiance. The game itself is taking place on Titan, one of the moons of Saturn. The moon has undergone extensive mining operations and over time a large city has built up around the operation. The city is called Sprawl so expect a rather ramshackle town as opposed to a more structured one, perfect for all manner of nasties to lurk in.

The town itself despite being set in space is going to be rather down to earth. Reason being that if you enter an environment you’re familiar with you’re not going to expect a lurking monster and you’re more likely to be able to immerse yourself in the game and hopefully become scared.

Dismemberment is back but aside from cutting various Necromorph limbs off you’ll also be able to impale them. So one of them is looming over you, you thrust a spike through their body and stick them to the wall, giving you time to run away or get a nice clean shot. Kinesis will play a bigger role this time too, allowing you to pick up all manner of objects like blades and spikes to throw at enemies, I’m picturing it a lot like Ravenholm from Half Life 2 in my mind.

Oh and the game itself is going to be as scary as ever, while the game itself will be more action orientated there will be plenty of scares but when it comes to your basic Necromorph Isaac will be more than adequately prepared to deal with them.

Dead Space is due out early next year and well keep you updated.
